Honorable Mention

Back in high school after a C.A.T, we would gather at the assembly grounds for the release of the results by Mr. Gakau. The most fascinating part of the whole exercise was the mention of a list he called honorable mention. These were students who had remarkably done well, major improvers and stuff like that. It was fascinating because it always sprung suprises. Now yours truly was never in the list, ever. I was in other lists and mostly not the ones worth mentioning. Then there was the top twenty, the cream of the class, the best of the best. It was boring to watch those guys, it was the usual suspects just kept changing positions but never out of the top twenty. Again I was sure I would never be in that list.
Later in life, I learnt something from this listing, it’s always good to appreciate and pay tribute to people who deserve an honorable mention for their outstanding roles in my life. They have stood out like a sore thumb, some have taken a beating or two for me and have not walked away even when I gave them every reason to. I have chosen to, from time to time, mention a few of them and whether or not they will walk away someday, it’s important for them to know I do not take for granted their presence. Again words cannot fully capture how you feel about the people who matter so regardless of the number of words these people are still in my heart for keeps. Men rarely appreciate men verbally or otherwise and I wont break this hallowed tradition, I can only hope that one day the men who will appear in this list will one day get a chance to read this, as for the women well I may get a chance to appreciate them face to face. As for family i will forever be indebted.
IZZO AND MIKE
These two guys are my childhood buddies. We know each other very well. They make the cut for several reasons. Most importantly being they judge me truthfully without condemnation. We usually spend almost every Sunday afternoon together basically chatting and visiting areas we spent our boyhood years.
Most interesting is that our paths are pretty different, mike is the gadgets guy. He loves to be in the loop of any new development in Smartphone world and soft wares and he loves to know so he aint afraid to ask. He believes information is power. Mike is also a church guy too and he loves preaching to us about hope and a better tomorrow. Izzo on the other hand loves farming and he is pretty good and determined to succeed in that venture. He got a never die spirit. I love their company and our differences have been a great source of strength.
These guys take me as I am, try their best to advise me and they always have my back. Their role and place in my life thus far can only be described as solid. Guys, may you rise to be the best of what you were meant to be.

PETER AND ALEX AND KAMLESH
These guys are heaven-sent. They are all related. I met them in Mombasa and with time they proved not all to be friends but rock-solid friends. Again they had my back when I almost lost it, they gave me a lifeline. Introduced me to people who later would really matter, trusted me with resources and a job, retained me when they had more than enough reasons to fire me.
We are all in different towns now, but we keep checking on each other. Words are not sufficient to describe these gentlemen but wherever they are I wish to let them know that they were my family down there and thank you for holding my hand.
WANINI
This is a lady I met back in high school, we come from the same area. She was and still as sharp as a razor. She makes the cut for several reasons top of them being she is cute and she is my very close friend, some day I hope she will cross the Rubicon. I trust her because she trusts me and she is intelligent. I enjoy her company because i never get bored and she is honest with me. I know her family too and they are good people. She knows I appreciate her place in my life because it’s significant, I really hope to continue enjoying her presence in my life. Lady, you are appreciated and thank you for being my friend.
JANET (Jano)
If there is someone who is not only a friend but a pillar in my life, it’s Janet Wangui. It’s impossible to describe what I have made her go through and like the cool Christian she is, she just never gave up on me. To try describe our friendship is to do a grave injustice to it. So Jano, always remember that when I count friends, I count you twice, you stand head and shoulder higher than everyone. I pray that you increase in excellence in all spheres.
VALENTINE (VAL)
Val Tanui holds a special place in my heart. We have been friends for eight years and I have enjoyed every single one of them. Her laughter and the way she calls my nickname is beautiful. most importantly the many hours we spent sharing our concerns and worries and like the sister she is, she took my worries to heart and never judged me but listened and helped where she could and I cannot forget the bible studies and the food. Val wherever you are, you are greatly missed, I know I will see u someday. Take care dear friend.
For these great buddies and many others that I will write about later, am indebted to you. I am very sure that am mot a perfect person and I know in the course of our interaction, I have offended you. I take this chance to ask for your forgiveness, I hope that you find it in your heart to do so. Thank you for being buddies.
